I totally didn’t think this would work.  lol.
Mostly, I did it to test the sizing (it’s too big - I want it to fit my ring-finger, not index - so it’s a good thing I tested it).  The intention is to put it up on shapeways.com so it can be printed by a legitimately decent printer, and in metal.

And here is the model after peeling off all of the raft material!
I hadn’t even bothered to try and clean it up any more than that, at this point.  No filing down on rough bits or anything.  Just raft removal.
I did eventually go back and do some filing on certain places, like the underside of the hat, but not much.  Woo.
I really need to get a better setup for taking photos… and maybe consider using a legitimate camera, and not just my iphone.

A while back I modeld Tony Tony Chopper from One Piece.  I intended to try printing him on my makerbot, but at the time I didn’t think it could do it without raft and was still afraid of trying to use raft at the time.  hehe.
Well, I was right that it cannot be printed without raft, but I’ve also learned since that raft can be easy to get off on certain types of models.

Here is what the model looked like coming off the platform and as I exposed the first few bits after peeling off some raft.

Portal Gun progressThe 1st half of the big shell for the portal gun was printed in all one piece, with raft support. It took 26hrs to print, and ended up breaking my bot.
For the 2nd piece, I cut it in half. Much faster print. Had to bondo it together, though.

Making a fake VHS screenshot

baruyon:

NO ONE ASKED FOR THIS but I wanted to share in case anyone wanted to make VHS-style images of their own. >D;

This is my very stripped down process gleaned from a far more complicated tutorial. I used it to make this picture. Hope you enjoy!

The image is a fanart of Motorcity’s Duke of Detroit which is (c) Titmouse :^)

Tools needed:  Your ‘fake screenshot’ art, Photoshop

This is the single largest thing I’ve printed to date - and it’s only half of the object.  Which means I have to print it again to get the second half.
It took more than a day to print it.  I tried creating my own raft support because when I tried doing it with the automatic raft support it seemed like it was going to be an enormous waste of material.
Honestly, I think it was about the same either way, but whatever.
This thing, by itself, ate up more plastic than probably all of the other things I’ve printed in white so far.  So yeah - it was a real pain.

When I first got the Makerbot, I told my daughter that I could print her toys with it.  I then proceeded to spend a month and a half printing things mostly just for myself, while I figured out how to use it.
I have finally rectified this, by printing my daughter a toy!  heh.
http://kp-shadowsquirrel.deviantart.com/ <— made these really fantastic My Little Pony 3d models and was kind enough to offer up the 3d files for free for anyone to download and do whatever with them.  So I took one of the Rarity models and printed it for my daughter.
